In the first weekend services following Hurricane Harvey and the ensuing accusations of miserly inaction by not opening the church to victims, Joel Osteen directly addressed the controversy to the church following videos from noted Christian leaders as Max Lucado, TD Jakes, Jentzen Franklin, Joyce Meyers, Steven Furtick, John Gray and others.  Dr. Paul Osteen, Joel’s brother who oversees the international and medical missions of Lakewood Church, recounted his conversations with Billy Graham’s son Franklin Graham, who not only pledged immediate support to Lakewood, but entered into an agreement to partner with Lakewood for five years to help Houston recover from the disaster.
